It frustrates me to say this, because I admire Patty Jenkins and because Chris Pine and the rest of the cast does a bang-up job on the performance front. But I Am the Night fails my personal acid test.
Pine gets lots to chew on while the makeup department is taxed to keep up with his various cuts and bruises. In that respect he's served a full plate. Too bad that too much of this is either overcooked or under-prepared.
Chris Pine's Jay Singletary is a fascinating role for him, one full of anger and frustration, a loose cannon mentality which serves him the opportunity to play a character with little regard for the blowback.
Based on a novel, written by FaunaHodel,I AM THE NIGHT,helmed by Patty Jenkins, is riveting, bone-chilling and heart-stopping. My eyes were glued to the screen with a knot in my stomach for the entire 6-part limited series
Not only does I Am the Night showcase powerful performances from Pine and Eisley, it also shines a light on a troubling moment in our own history, but in a sleight-of-hand fashion as focuses on one of the most famous unsolved murders in Hollywood history.
