The slow burn of the planning phase is rolled out like a marathon, the ducks that need to be lined up are but a few, but getting them plumb is thrilling even as it tugs at the attention span.

The three leads are dispicable, but everything is carefully crafted to be able to empathize with their plight. [Full Review in Spanish

It is a punishing watch. Confinement is everything, though Stiller occasionally entertains himself with jarring moments.

Ben Stiller's 'Escape at Dannemora' whitewashes the reality of America's carceral system.

It's a slow trod to get to a climax that was well-documented at the time, pierced with very occasional moments of violence and more frequent bursts of songs from the eclectic soundtrack that serve to kick up the rhythm.

Arquette's portrayal of a biddable woman with a low IQ and unfulfilled yearnings feels compellingly real.

It doesn't have the energy or excitement of a B picture, though it does, despite its general somberness, manage to feel exploitative.

The actors and Stiller's direction keep Dannemora mostly interesting despite how thin the characters are, but you can't help wishing their skills had been applied to a more fundamentally compelling story.

Patricia Arquette's excellence as Tilly is the strongest selling point of a show where the points of an unsurprising plotline are subordinate to a memorable intensity of performances.

You'd just think a show about dangerous criminals, scandalous affairs and adorable pugs would be a bit more...exciting? But with mostly solid performances, this too-strange-to-be-true story is still worth checking out.

If you are looking for a performance that truly deserves both your attention and respect, Oscar winner Arquette owns that spotlight Escape at Dannemora.

It's not quite enough to keep audiences more than mildly interested.

A series that certainly feels authentic -- surely a godsend for anyone who constantly tuts "unrealistic" at the TV -- but at times it is also extremely slow moving. If you have the patience, however, there is plenty of reward.
